JAMAICA

MAY 3-8

TRIP DETAILS

PURPOSE

Our team is heading back to Jamaica! We’ll spend most of our time in Kingston and the surrounding area to continue building relationships with locals, to come alongside what is happening there in terms of skate and surf ministry, and to contribute to those doing the work.  Skating and surfing is growing in Jamaica, and this provides opportunities to serve and bring the gospel into those spaces alongside the local partners as we see the needs there. The trip is closed this time, but we invite you to pray for our team traveling; that God would use them and work through them as they build relationships, serve and envision what God could do in the action sports community there in the future.

OUR DESTINATION
Famous for its natural harbor, Kingston, Jamaica is the capital city and chief port on the southeastern coast of the island.  Backed by the Blue Mountains, Kingston is also known as a significant center for music and the home of Island Records.  More than 25% of the population of the whole island lives with the boundaries of Kingston and St. Andrew. Bull Bay, about 10 miles south of Kingston and Boston Bay in Portland are the main skateboard and surf areas. Trench Town, known for the presence of Bob Marley, and Barbican are spots in Kingston proper where skateparks may likely be built in the future.  As the skate and surf communities grow, we hope to support, encourage, and come alongside those serving generously in these areas.  From our contacts there, we have learned that there are many challenges in Kingston such as fatherlessness, gang violence and lack of positive opportunities for inner city kids.  Also a high need for discipleship.  Pray for our team as we are able to head into some or these spaces.
